I just got my iPod 2G about a week ago, and I noticed that the seal between the the metal body and the glass is not correct. When I press on the corners of the unit, there is kind of a dull "popping" sound and you can see the glass compress into the correct place. Is this a common defect? Is it enough of a defect for Apple to fix or replace under the warranty? I don't want dust to get through and collect under the glass where I can't clean it off.

if its within the stores return/exchange policy exchange it for a new one since its a defective product, I work at target and thats what we'd do, BUT bring back everything Receipt(or if you paid with a credit card, debit card, check card, or check, then that if you don't have the receipt) if you paid cash and don't have a receipt then in most stores your screwed. Also the case it came in and the cords and ear buds.

I have that on my 2G also.
I called bestbuy to see if they would give me a replacement and they said they won't give a replacement for any cosmetic damage, even tho I didn't even do it.
Pretty stupid if you ask me. I guess the extra 40$ I spent on a warranty was a complete waste..

I bought it off of Amazon.com. Can I bring in the invoice I got from them as a form of a receipt?

Its not cosmetic damage, its a flaw that may eventually kill your Ipod if you talk to a manager and they still wont do anything ask them for the number to customer relations.

You can only return target items to target, contact amazon and see what they will do and if that fails then go to apple.

@MovyBuf upload a picture of it to flickr or something and then post the link here so we can see if its a actual flaw or just the line apple has on there
