Last night, I was watching a movie on my iPod, and I wanted to turn up the sound. So, I used the Remote and Mic. It didn't work, none of the buttons worked. So, I un-plugged then plugged it back in, and it still didn't work. I did a respring, and it still didn't work.
So, I continued watching. Then I tried unplugging it, and plugging it. My iPod did recognise the headphones being unplugged, and kept playing the movie. It didn't pause, and go to the speakers like it usually does.

The problem has stopped now, but this is the second time it has happened. What should I do?

Does sound still play through the headphones? Does the mic still work?

Yeah sounds still plays. I'm not sure I didn't try it at the time...
I don't know how dust would explain it not knowing that the headphones weren't plugged in...

if you have a can of compressed air blow a lil bit in but no directly and try plugging it into a dock that fixed it for me.
