I was jail breaking by using ziphone on my ipod touch 1.1.4 everything was fine when suddenly my ipod "broke". After that the screen showns only a black background with white letters:

singleuser boot -- fsck not done
    root device is mounted read-only

if you want to make modifications to files :
    /sbin/fsck-fy
    /sbin/mount -uw/

if you wish to boot the system:
    exit

oct 27 06:42:42 launchd [43]: cant exec/bin/sh for single user: no such fuile or directory.

    and thats it.
Ive tryed everything and the screen wont change!! PLEASE HELP!!!

Open up iTunes and connect your iPod. You should then upgrade your firmware.

Then, Jailbreak it. Because on firmware 1.1.4, the jailbreak isn't so good. 2.1 is much better and newer which is always good.

The problem is that the computer won't detect the iPod anymore.

    Plug in
Turn off (hold both buttons until screen turns off)
    Release all buttons
Home both buttons again for exactly 10 seconds
Release the power button, and hold the home until it pops up in iTunes
    Restore
    Upgrade to 2.1
