Ive tried restoring it, putting it in DFU mode, and everything, i currently have it as 'itunes is preparing to restore the software to this iPod' but its been like this for 49 hours and hasnt moved past 1%.... ive been trying to bring it back for a week now. Ive tried 2.0, 3.0, 4.0 nothing none of them work. Any ideas?

Make sure everything is the newest. If that doesn't work don't plug in your iPod and let it run out of battery. Try restoring again after it regains it's charge.

Try to force your iPod into recovery mode, than download the newest firmware version. Also, try contacting Apple.

It's not hard to change the date on your computer.

But are you sure you are putting it into DFU mode correctly? Have you used any programs to put it into DFU?

Can you use a different computer? or Cable?

did you update your hosts file in the past? if so, take out the gs.apple.com line. that is what solved my similar problem.

try downloading the software and doing a shift+restore.
