Is it at all possible to edit a file or something so that the wifi antenna stays on when my iPod Touch (3g 64 gig if it matters) is locked?

I can't count how many times I've been downloading something or trying to transfer a large file through WinSCP and have to restart several times because I'll start working on something else and it will auto-lock after a few minutes and sever the connection. Also, my school's internet requires logging in every time you connect, so it's a pain having to log in every time it loses connection.

Blah blah blah it will use more battery but I don't care. I want my wifi antenna to be on and connected 100% of the time, locked or not. I don't want to just set it never to auto lock.

    Possible?

Go on cydia and search for something called insomnia
it keeps wifi going while its locked, and you can get a sb settings toggle for it too

I would recommend KeepAwake. An SBSettings addon.
It doesn't waste as much battery as insomnia does.

Scribe - I thought the general consensus was that SBSettings used a lot of battery itself.

Not that it really matters, the longest it ever has to go between charges is about 6 hours.

SBsettings doesn't use enough battery to justify not having it. It's so convenient and provides you with infinitely more control. One of them being keepawake. You can toggle it on when you need your wifi to stay connected. Then you can toggle it off so it doesn't always drain battery.

Well I never experienced any severe battery drainage.
And that's usually the first app i install after i jailbreak.
    Never noticed anything
