Would it be possible to modify a remote for the ipod, then modify the NES/GBA emu to accept input from it to use as an external controller?

It might be possible, like that guy who got the audio in to work. Although I wouldn't really like to see this, a big chunky controller plugged into a sexy slim iPod

Wouldnt need to be chunky, it could quite easily be 1/3 of the size of the iPod.

Through the dock or even using the ipod's wifi to connect the controller

I agree. I mean, how would you hold this controller? I can't picture myself setting down the Touch and using the controller with my hands. Both the NES and GBA requires two hands for decent gameplay. If I was that serious about gaming - I would get a PSP - it runs the emulators more effectively.

think of it like the psp "wificontroller" where you can use the psp as a controller on your computer via wifi. change that so that you can use your computer controller, to control your ipod via wifi. all you'd need is an app for PC to host the server, and a program for the ipod to connect to the server.

I ranted about this for a while on zodttd.com. I decided that the best thing would be using the data port after seeing the mic on hackaday. I also would really like to see more use of the accelerometer like the wii does, actual directional control, not just changing "gravity."
