I'm porting a Vista sidebar app i wrote using Javascript which issues an XMLHttpRequest to a 3rd party site, parses the returned webpage and outputs the data in a nice useful manner.

Currently it's all being done using an HTML DOM and javascript manipulation of this. What's the best way to develop this as an iPhone app do you people reckon? I could turn this into a webapp, but i don't believe i can issue XMLHttpRequests to a 3rd party website.

Can Objective C do any of this relatively easily, would doing this as a Jiggy Runtime app be better or can i get Safari to issue the XMLHttpRequest to another site successfully instead, and turn it into some form of webapp?

I'm new to developing for the iPod touch, but am a reasonable programmer and have plenty of experience playing about with my iPod over SSH. It's just this world of iPod Touch development seems a bit...vast.
