    tom-kerrys-computer:~ Tom$ ssh -l root 192.168.0.187
ssh: connect to host 192.168.0.187 port 22: Connection refused

Is anyone else having this issue?

I have done the process twice now from the start to this point on two different networks, i dont believe the known_hosts dir is there either as i cannot find it?

I have seen a lot of people with this error so hopefully this will help them to

    Thanks

i have the same problem...the known_hosts is in a folder called .ssh which you can only view if you have hidden files and folders showing (use a program like onyx). I deleted it and no change... maybe someone should try and delete the whole folder?? it resets after each restart... i would but my ipod is at my other house...

I think we need to bring this topic back up. A lot of people seem to be having Connection Refused issues. I being on of them. And i've tried it all, i can ping the ipod but cannot ssh. I've tried the jailbreak from osx and windows. And i tried two different networks i have in my house.

No firewall prob cuz i can ssh into other pc's in my house.

    Any other ideas out there?

I Can customize all of my router. But the problem is:

I actually got a connection timed out error. Here is what the Putty Docs say:

    `Network error: Connection timed out'

This error means that the network connection PuTTY tried to make to
your server received no response at all from the server. Usually
this happens because the server machine is completely isolated from
the network, or because it is turned off.

Check that you have correctly entered the host name or IP address
of your server machine. If that fails, consult the administrator of
    your server.

Unix also generates this error when it tries to send data down a
connection and contact with the server has been completely lost
during a connection. (There is a delay of minutes before Unix gives
up on receiving a reply from the server.) This can occur if you type
things into PuTTY while the network is down, but it can also occur
if PuTTY decides of its own accord to send data: due to a repeat key
exchange in SSH-2 (see section 4.19.2) or due to keepalives (section
    4.13.1).

i also have the connection refused problem... i restored my ipod about 5 times always tried something different nothing works.
maybe its because of the dhcp settings? have someone tried deactivate dhcp on your router and set a static ip on the pod?
