When your iPod is in power save mode, (sleep), you press the home button or the button at the top, there is a small but noticeable popping noise.

are you talking about with a popping noise in the headphones? or a popping noise in the speaker? if its the speaker, thats supposed to be there, if its the headphones, that happens on every ipod when they first power on. it happens on some older laptops as well when you first turn them on. i believe its just a surge of power.

Yeah, the popping noise was through the headphones. Glad to know this is normal.
