    Hello.

OK. I'm having trouble with buuf (apps icons) PNGs.
Whenever I open with PSP or GIMP a PNG that is supposed to have transparency, the transparent area is all black, but when I view the PNG in Windows' Image Viewer or Explorer or when used on my iPod Touch, it looks fine. How do I go from opening the PNG and keep the transparency in PSP or GIMP? The PNGs seem to be palette-based.. Hmmm.

    Thanks

    Doesn't work....
In PSP when I open the PNG, the background is white. In GIMP, I can see the checkers but the (black) edges are really sharp like there is no transparency..

Are you opening the image or just copy + pasting it? Because copying a transparent image causes the background to turn black. If you open the actual image file directly it should be working fine.

Yeah I know.. copy pasting gives me a black background, opening it gives me a white one.
I don't have Photoshop. Would anyone be kind enough to open the file below in Photoshop and tell me it it works..?

I just opened it, the background is transparent but the shadow messes up, just like your original image:

Yeah.. all icons are like that in the buuf4 theme.

For now, I use PNGs from my GNOME's Buuf-deuce icon set, but I'm missing a lot of icons that are in Winterboard's Buuf4 theme. I have no idea where to find those Icons.

It opened fine for me in Seashore, which is based on the GIMP technology but is designed for the Mac OS X's Cocoa framework.

Maybe the original icon was made on a Mac and uses some sort of modified png optimization for OS X, maybe similar to the iPhone png format (Macs and PCs can't view png's that are optimized for the iPhone).

    That's my only guess.

The original ones work once converted with fixpngWindows, but makes no difference with the buuf4 ones. They're not the same as I can see previews of buuf4 icons just fine.

If anyone knows of an app like Seashore for Windows Vista/XP or Linux, let me know. Or a way with GIMP..

    edit: Found this: http://iconverticons.com/
It converts PNGs fine, once converted, PNG's are perfect..
