I installed iTunes 8 and got a error saying:

Warning! The registry settings used by the drivers for
importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result
if installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall itunes. itunes was
not properly installed. If you want itunes to be able to retrieve CD
information from the internet, you need to reinstall itunes."

I ignored it and clicked ok, then I connected my ipod touch and tried to upgrade to 2.1 by shift+click+click for update from a firmware I downloaded from a mirror because I couldn't download it from apple. It then couldn't recognize my ipod and said "New Hardware Found"
my computer recognizes it but iTunes doesn't.

I tried deleting itunes and reinstalling and nothing happened. My ipod is now bricked and I don't know what to do.

    Any advice?

You are going to need to reinstall itunes or restart and get the drivers back. Just put the firmware with the other updates in the proper directory and just hit restore.

You kids throw around "bricked" far too often...
In fact, you haven't even said anything about your iPod except you can't upgrade the firmware.

Need more info, like what is your iPod doing?
Have you tried putting it into DFU mode and restoring?

Reinstall itunes or restart your computer so the drivers load again
