Ok, so my friend had a jailbroken ipod touch 2nd generation on 3.1.2, and he restored and updated his ipod to 4.1, so he lost all his apps and everything. Does that mean he lost his jailbreak forever? Because I read on the Dev Teams blog that you should not update. Is it possible to downgrade to 4.0 and jailbreak his ipod through jailbreakme.com? Or has he lost his jailbreak permanently?

He only lost it until a 4.1 jailbreak comes out.

Cuz there's no jailbreak out yet for it.

Because the jailbreak isn't out yet so if you depend on a jailbreak then they warn you to not update.

    And yes you can downgrade.

This works. Follow it, and if you cant save the edits to the host file, use a different program. I am on a mac and couldnt save, so I downloaded textwrangler and was able to save the edits to the host file. Just restored my 4.1 FW back to 4.0, took a good 5 minutes to begin the restore, but I could wait. I want this jailbroken again!

Although, I dont think I will have to kick my device out of recovery mode after I am done syncing my apps and songs, it seems as if iTunes already did that when it restored to the 4.0 FW.
