Its not gonna let you update to 3.1.2 anyways, apple doesnt sign that anymore.

    As far as i know.

If your not using firefox then try downloading the firmware again using firefox.

If it still shows up as a zip file then change the extension to .ipsw.

Not sure why but I heard that windows sometimes downloads it as a zip when in fact its a ipsw.

Ya and I downloaded the firmware in Safari.

And how can I change the extension to .ipsw. ? I'm clueless.

    No ipsw restore file anywhere.

I'm going to try and download it again with Firefox this time though.

Stupac, thank you very much for suggesting to use Firefox because that's exactly what my problem was. I downloaded the firmware again except this time with Firefox and I got the ipsw restore file that I was suppose to get in the first place.

    thank you

Okay now that I got the right firmware, now I'm having trouble with the part "MAKE IT RAIN." When I click it, this message pops up, by the way, I'm using BlackRa1n.

I'm not really sure. You can try right clicking Blackra1n and selecting "Run as administrator" or if you are already doing that then try not doing that.

You can also try re-downloading blackra1n and restarting your computer.

If all that fails try this:

rename blackra1n.exe to blackra1n.bat & right click for properties and click on the unblock button and then click apply, go to the security heading tab and click it, click on the edit button and then click edit and put a tick in the full control and click apply. Exit and run blackra1n

    1) Plug in iPod Touch 2G into computer
    2) Update to 3.1.3
    3) Download 3.1.2 firmware AND Redsn0w 0.9.4
    4) Start Redsn0w, point it to 3.1.2 firmware
    5) Choose install Cydia
    6) Follow instructions
    7) PROFIT!!!
