So I am in need of some help. I have a jailbroken 2G ipod touch running 2.2.1. It worked fine for a long time, then it stopped being recognized by my pc. So I tried my laptop. Still didn't recognize. So I tried a different desktop. Nothing. So I tried a few things that I found by googling and ended up getting caught in a boot screen cycle where the boot screen stays on and then after a while will try to reboot but hangs on the boot screen again. i think i have managed to put it into dfu mode, but pc still won't recognize it, just says USB device has malfunctioned or not recognized. iTunes won't recognize it obviously. I'm stuck. any help?

and i have tried searching the forums, and found plenty of 'stuck at boot screen' posts, but they all were able to get their pc to recognize their ipod. i have tried 3 different machines and they all failed.

Plug it into your computer (regardless of whether its recognized).
DFU Mode will only work if you perform the steps with your iPod plugged in

Are all of your machines Windows Vista?
Because the same thing happened to me and it said the same thing on my Vista machine.
I plugged it into my XP computer, and BAM, it got recognized.

So try on XP, if you can.

Just keep trying DFU, and sooner or later, you will get it.

Here's a really great, in-depth video tutorial on how to DFU.

Put it in DFU mode (link in my signature) and restore it.
