    Hi there,

I have just purchased a brand new 3rd generation Ipod Touch.

I just installed the latest iTunes software and plugged in the new ipod via the USB cable as the manual told me to do...

iTunes automatically opens up and then gives me the message "An ipod has been detected but it could not be identified properly".

Thats as far as I can get???

This ipod is BRAND NEW, I used to have an old 1st gen ipod nano installed on this PC but have uninstalled iTunes and re-installed the new version since then, so is it possible that something to do with my old ipod is messing with my new one?

I don't know what to do to get my new one working

Another forum suggested I unplug all my other USB devices and try it again but the same message still appears even with no other USB cables plugged into my PC.

    I am running Windows Vista...

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I said, this is a brand new out of the box ipod with a fresh up to date iTunes installed

When you plug the iPod in are you plugging into a USB DIRECTLY into your pc? You cant use any of those 4way USB extender things or any of that.

Hmmm, seems like the iPod was not installed properly... Or it could be an issue with iTunes as well...

Last option is Bulbuzor's suggestion though!
