Right just bought an ipod touch 2g, got home and plugged it into my mac, open up itunes it detects my new ipod however it is in recovery mode, not sure if this is right since i have never had an ipod touch before so this may be normal. However i restore it like it asks me to and update to 2.2, it extracts the software but when it starts to restore it says it cannot restore the ipod, error code 21

Can somebody please help me fix this?

When you plug it into iTunes it should ask you to name it and stuff.. then it should not be in recovery mode, it should be ready to be used at full battery. Contact Apple and tell them about error #21 because they don't have a page that tells you what the errors mean.

When i plug it into itunes all the details say n/a on them. If i turn it on without it plugged in it just comes up with the itunes logo with a little usb connector beneath it.

Is there anything i can do to fix this?

I don't know if force restarting it would work but you can try that. If it doesn't contact Apple and tell them you need a new one because the software update doesn't work with itunes or your ipod.

Yes. Apple can fix it for you.

Okay, that firmware update hasn't worked either and Apple's call centres aren't open at the moment, i really need a way to fix this myself...

Nope, that didn't work either, i haven't even got to the home screen yet, its stuck the sync to itunes screen. But its a different screen to that shown in the video.
The connector below the logo is the bit that attaches to the computer usb not the bit that connect to the ipod, if you know what i mean?

    This is a little stupid.
