Hello everybody. I have bought an 8 Gb Ipod touch for Christmas but when I turn it on it showed on the screen that I had to plug it to the pc and connect it to Itunes. I have the latest version of Itunes on the PC but the thing is that the computer doesn't even recognize my Ipod touch. It also doesn't charge.

    Same thing here

I called apple and they said it could be the cable.
They sent me a new cable......... Same thing (not recognized).
Called apple and they said it could be the ipod and sent me a shipping box for returning the ipod for repair.
In the mean time, I tried the touch on my daughters laptop and it worked (synced and charged).
Long story short. I connected the ipod to my computer, but this time with a 15 foot usb extension cable (which has in-line electronics and buffer) and it works.
I have been using the extension cable ever since and that is the only way it works on my computer. Do not ask me why....but it works. It may be that my usb 2.0 bus power is maginal on that computer.
