I have had my iPod touch 2g since November 15,2008. I recently updated it with the newest software out, the day after it randomly shut off. When i plugged it into itunes a message popped up said that it detected my ipod was in recovery mode and needed restored, so i restored it. It worked for half a day then did the same thing. I restored it again and it keeps doing this and i have restored it over 20 times and don't know if this is a fixable problem. Please help. (I have also tried holding the home and sleep button & my ipod is fully charged because i leave it plugged into the computer for the whole night)

Well, if you don't care to restore, I would say DFU restore it. This will fix any issues your device may have.

DFU restore is a type of restore that resets everything. You hold the home and power buttons for about ten seconds, then release the power button and just hold the home button until your computer recognizes it. It will say it is in recovery mode. This should work.
