My friend showed me his ipod today and it was at v 2.1.2 and he wanted me to update him to 3.1.2 and I opened up Itunes and plugged in his ipod to my comp and clicked update and it went through the motions, but it would not update and froze and now his ipod is bricked at the screen with the apple logo with a loading bar and it will not even enter into restore or DFU mode. Itunes will not recognize. Please help

Not bricked, you're not entering DFU mode right.

Now do as I say and nothing should go wrong.
    1. Plug in iPod.
    2. Try putting it in DFU mode again and it doesn't matter if there is no response! (hold home+power buttons 10sec then only home button until computer makes sound).
    3. Go to this website: [redacted]
on the bottom drop-down list save 'iPod touch 3.1.2(7D11)'.
    4. Hold shift (or ctrl/alt if that doesn't work) and click restore and locate where you saved the firmware file.
    5. Restore it to the same properties as the previous ipod and sync the apps/music/videos/photos back on the ipod and finally it should show up the boot logo again and redirect you to the springboard with 3.1.2 firmware.
    Hope this helps.

I'm new here but aren't you not aloud to put this here?

And did you pay for 3.1 firmware?

Correct, that site should only be used as a last resort, if you paid for 3.1.2, and iTunes just won't let you update, then that's when you use it.
