You probably would get less flamage if you gave your thread a title relevant to your question.

the file in question is the firmware package for your device. And yes, it can be decrypted.

The problem with Making custom Firmware is that it would have to match the size of the standard firmware version right down to the last bit. iTunes uses what's called a checksum to compare the size of the package to what the size of the package is supposed to be. If it is so much as one bit off, iTunes will spit the package back into you face.

    o, well that makes sense.

so technically people cud make custom firmware thats smaller than the original, then just include a text file the appropraite size to make up for the lack of size?

i dont see why that wouldnt work...

the problem would be making it smaller if you huge-ify it!

well, u cud not have everything come with the firware, like not a bunch of extra apps n stuff, just modificatins to say springboard, a different boot image, a didfferent browser maybe, and then have like a package of apps that u can install after u install the firmware, but not included in the firware file
and maybe give it abilities like make new folder on a desktop interface

-u cud strip the original firware of safari, youtube, calende, clock, contacts, n all that stuff and then just put it all in a package for installation separately

    wutta ya think?

yeah man...cud is what a cow chews...

I don't trust a kid who can't even spell REMOTELY properly to create stable home made firmware..
