Will love to do this.. Basically want to play those thousands of files which I have on my pc's hdd

Currently I'm running a small webserver [hfs] which has got all my videos and mp3 shared.

Using Folders app or air sharing application, download those videos and then play..

    Downside:
[-] Have to copy the files, diskspace is an issue
[-] Have to encode to MP4 [probably using AV player with FInder will support avi]

good for mp3s but practically not suitable for mp4s

    Any ideas or suggestions..

Btw.. I already shared how I do it.. some users might find it interesting..

If you have a server hooked to your computer then the server should just show up on your iMac

Just to update.. found 2 wonderful ways to do this thing..

    FIRST >>
    1. Run any http server on pc/mac [simplest is http file server, apache will do]
    2. Install dTunes on jailbroken ipod touch / iphone
    3. Now share the videos/mp3 in your mac/pc's web
    4. Point safari on touch to pc and download the videos/mp3 you want
    5. Enjoy with dTunes and delete after seeing

    SECOND >>
    1. Run ftp server on pc/mac/linux [i use filezilla]
    2. Get iStorage from itunes.
    3. Add your ftp server details and view/listen from it directly within iStorage

The second option really rocks. I have my desktop packed with several episodes of heroes / my name is earl, some other vids [which I won't admit] and definitely some wonderful movie rips.

No longer limited to 8/16GB ;]

Ok after I upgraded my knowledge a bit more..

Tversity or orb is the best way to achieve this.

I personally like tversity better, coz its free and it gives good quality.

Orb is good if you have a quite high end machine though
