Suggests you have an issue with your USB ports.

On my 'hackintosh' I had this issue I fixed it by removing the AppleHPET.kext (Back this up just in case) from the System/Library/Extensions Folder which in turn fixed my broken usb ports.

    Hackintosh Specs:
    - 6710b HP Laptop
    - iPC 10.5.6 Beta PPF2 w/ Intel Patch

I'm not sure if this will fix your problem but look into scenarios where people have had their USB ports not working.
