    SOFTWARE UPDATED - v0.4

    Update 3 March 2008:
    Search function added
    + bug fixes

    Update 23 Feb 2008:
iphpPod is now available through Installer.app
Separate packages to install ffmpeg, and correct configuration files for Apache/PHP are also available.

Ok, i've had my iTouch since xmas, and it has to be the best gadget i've ever owned. By Boxing Day it was jailbroken, and having just installed Apache & PHP, and having seen some posts about how great it would be to play downloaded content directly, i thought i'd write a little php app.... so here you go...

For those of you that use DropCopy, or you wish to watch videos / listen to music which you haven't transferred to your Touch or iPhone via iTunes, then iphpPod is the answer...

Maybe you've got some videos (ahem!) which you don't want to be visible via the normal video player!!

    Supported formats:
    • mp3 audio, including ID3v1 and v2 tag support
    • mp4 / mov / mpeg videos
    • jpg, gif, bmp, png images
    • xls & doc (Microsoft Excel & Word)
    • pdf
    • html

Other video formats (e.g. 3gp, wmv) can be streamed off the iPod Touch into a normal (i.e. PC) web-browser providing the relevant plugins are installed on the PC.

Video thumbnails can also be created by installing the additional iphpPod ffmpeg package.

    Requirements
    Jailbroken (obviously).
    BSD subsystem
    OpenSSH
Apache or Lighttp, and PHP (both setup and working as per this page : http://www.ifans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2010)

    Installation

Add http://iphppod.googlepages.com/repo.plist to your Installer Sources.
iphpPod can then be found under Multimedia.

    Manual Installation

Download the iphpPod_v0.4.zip file, unzip it to your PC and read instructions.txt

    Support, bugs, requests, etc...
If you are experiencing any problems with iphpPod, please visit http://code.google.com/p/iphppod, where you will find a support Wiki, and can raise any new issues.

    Feedback welcomed...

N.B. Most of the comments in this thread now relate to previous versions (i.e. v0.1 or v0.2) of iphpPod, but for a history lesson, feel free to read on...

Very true... didn't think of that!

I've seen some php stuff on how to extract id3 tags from mp3 files, so i think that's next on the agenda, along with maybe a login page (to prevent those prying eyes!), and generation of thumbnails for mp4's (done a test already using ffmpeg - care of wickedpsyched.net - just need to implement it in php).

Nice, going to install this just in a min.
You should make an icon for this for the springboard so it will open up the directory with just a tap.

On my iTouch, /etc is a symbolic link to /private/etc/, so try in there....

Hey I edited a Web App to execute the file directory in Safari - http://www.rarhost.com/download-m67k87.html

I made the icon images etc really quickly so sorry for the lack of quality. You can always make your own if you want to.
When downloaded just SSH the file into the Applications directory of the iPod then restart your ipod for it to appear on the springboard.

Hey I already posted a thread on this but I was wondering if anyone knew how to get rid of a 404 not found error. I got this error, restarted the ipod, got to the right page, restarted again, and got the error, restarted again and got the error... I can't get the page again. I'd appreciate any help

Hmm... Maybe with this and the file download plugin, we can develop a better way to play downloaded files from seeqpod. If the file download plugin could be edited to download to the folder this app reads from, we could easily play back the file thru the php/apache server thing instead of sendfile. Then, and this is not a request, if this app will be able to play back files other than mp3 and mp4, this would become really useful and would be a nice addition to the touch, enabling it to be a full-fledged downloadable media player, i.e. You could keep all your media files on a server and download/play them literally on demand - pretty cool. Anyway, enough speculation - ill definitely try this app when i get the chance.

EDIT: Well, I managed to get apache working on my ipod, but can't seem to get php working, even following the tut linked step by step...but i still managed to try out the app, and even with all the errors, looks very very promising. I edited the index.php file to make the symlink to /var/root/Downloads instead of /var/root/Media/Downloads, as the first directory is where the filedownload plugin saves files. If this works as I hope it does, this may allow us to play both downloaded videos and music with a better interface. Once i get php working, I'll report back.
