I know that Photoshop is an image editing program and Illustrator is a vector graphics program, I'm planning on getting Illustrator, but i want to know one thing.

What can Illustrator do that Photoshop can't?

It's a lot easier to create vector art. That's pretty much it.
    The packages are very different.

Illustrator can't photoedit very well, as it's not designed to do it.

So basically Photoshop is to change, Illustrator is to create?

Not really. I use Photoshop to create stuff too, but Illustrator is much easier to create vector images.

Yeah, Illustrator is all about the vectors. If you want some really good text or a good logo, Illustrator is the program to go to.

Illustrator is for vectors, drawing but combined with Photoshop it's great. Also good to make fonts in. Photoshop is image editing and manipulation.

illustrator is basically pure creation. image editing is not very efficient in illustrator, but it has greater flexibility with your designs (such as infinitely zooming in and out or printing at any size imaginable with no loss in quality)

photoshop can both create and change images, but you are limited to certain properties with the completed image (resolution, sharpness)

    Photoshop - pixel based
    Illustrator - vector based
