The iPod Touch's operating system is based on MacOS X which is based on Unix - uses the same type of permissions as you'd have on a Unix platforms. Permissions are used to limit what you can do with a file - read, write or execute. Wikipedia has a detailed description of the meaning of the codes and uses - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Permissions

755 basically gives you permissions to run/execute the application

Oh ok well that makes sense.

So anything that you FTP to your ipod whether it be themes and such have to be set to 755to be able to work correctly right?

One more question, when you have downloaded applications out of installer and all that onto your ipod, you dont have to change any of the permissions on that right? I would think that they would already be set but im not quite sure.
