For Mac users, it's '/private/ect/' by the way.

Wow! I love you guys! And just in time too. I recently screwed up my iPod and needed to restore it. Currently I am on firmware 3.1.3 and don't want to upgrade to iOS4, because then I won't be able to jailbreak it. This is because I can't use the new PwnageTool 4.0 that was released by the Dev Team a few days ago because I don't own a Mac and my iPod is an MC model. So I want to stay on firmware 3.1.3 and re-jailbreak with Spirit. However, when ever I plug my iPod into my computer and restore by pressing the Shift key and selecting the firmware 3.1.3 on my desktop, I keep getting the iTunes Error 3014. This was on a Windows computer with iTunes 9.1 installed on it. So then I tried the same thing on my other Windows computer. This computer has iTunes 9.2 installed on it. This time I did not get the iTunes Error 3014, but I did get a message that said that the firmware was incompatible with my iPod. But when selecting the firmware to download it, I specifically checked firmware type by going to Settings Application>General>About. So I know that the firmware is compatible, but iTunes just won't let me do it. So, any way, I'll try your solution. Also, when you say to delete the Saurik Server, exactly what do I need to delete?? And will this work on my Windows computer with the iTunes 9.1 or 9.2 installed on it or both?? Thank you very much for your help!!

go to computer, windows, system32, drivers, etc, then host (open on notepad) and look for something.apple or something like that at the bottom

If you have a Mac, hit authenticate and type your password. Not sure about Windows.

Whats wrong with going to safari on your iDevice
visiting jailbreakme.com and sliding to jailbreak (on 4.0)?

I tried to do as you said in the tread. Opened the host file, but nothing about apple there. Then I figured that since I'm using a 64 bit OS and the Itunes version I have is the 64 bit version that I should go under SystemWOW64 instead, but I guessed wrong. What do you suggest for me?
