    Try using another USB port.

Try using a different USB cable and port.

You (or someone else) may have accidently deleted the AppleMobileDevice service. Which recognises iPod Touches and iPhones.

To get it back simply delete and re-install iTunes (it saves your music and automatically reloads your library when you reinstall)

If you have libusb installed than delete it. That fixed mine.
And you will not loss your music by reinstalling iTunes.

Plug directly into the computer, not into a hub, that was my problem. I may be wrong. I knew this happened to me though.
