This is an idea that was spawned by the other thread with the idea of having internet on the iPod Touch by plugging it in through the USB cable.

I say knock out the middle man and look for an easier solution. What is it? It's a Cydia application/executable for the PC and Mac.

    It would allow you to:

    - Download any Cydia package directly from the PC
    - Install Cydia packages via USB

    Other possible ideas:

    - Become a total replacement for iTunes with the ability to sync music, video, and appstore apps (official not cracked).
    - Browse through the iPod Touch/iPhone system files via USB
    - Anything else that would make this application/executable useful.

If anyone is interested in developing this app, I'd be happy to do graphic design for it. (May not be the best graphic design but whatever)

I think this is a great idea, I'd love for you to make it

    Edit: 333 posts, lol

Personally I wouldn't even know where to start.

Cydia uses the APT package management system, created by Debian www.debian.org which is open-source. The common package manager used on Ubuntu (based off Debian) is called Synaptic, which is also open-source. Someones already made a program for you, you just need to port it

I could potentially take the repos and make them downloadable on the desktop.

    http://packages.ubuntu.com/intrepid/apt-zip

"These scripts simplify the process of using dselect and apt on a non-networked Debian box, using removable media like ZIP floppies and USB keys. One generates a `fetch' script (supporting backends such as wget and lftp, in a modular, extensible way) to be run on a host with better connectivity, check space constraints of your removable media, and then install the package on your Debian box. "

    Might be an easy start.

I can't find the source for the debian packager. If someone could link me to that it would be awesome.

I think this would be quite useful. Either make your own, or port Synaptic. Both would be great ideas.
