If they make you pay, can you use iTunes credit to pay it? Cos I'm only 12 and I have no credit card... yet. >:D

Just a note, I think the law has changed since sox such that Apple is no longer legally required to charge for updates, but chooses to do so anyways.

I don't think that Apple should just give away their updates either. But on the flip side to everyone that has an Iphone, you are not paying $68 or $82 a month for an update. You are paying that for Wireless service, for having a microphone, a camera, video and every other quality the iphone has over the ipod touch. So there is no point in telling the ipod touch users about how much you pay for Wireless service.

I say iPhones should pay for updates sewell because the only reason you pay $60 or so a month is for phone and Internet service... That's for your satisfaction and should not influence apples updates

Wow, everyone complaining about iPhones getting free Apple updates sound like jealous little girls. Seriously, it's $5-10, who cares. It won't affect your life that much.

The wireless bill has nothing to do with free updates or not. You can cancel your wireless provider and still use your phone like an iPod touch. The updates will still be free (right?)
I think the reason theyre free is because they want iPhones to be up to date to patch exploits for jailbreakers to eliminate 3g unrestrictor and tethering.

I think it's unfair as well to charge for the new firmwares because everyone claims "Oh, well I pay so and so for my iPhone." Well yeah, it's a cellphone. You have to pay to have service and what not. There's people with iPod touches and a cellphone. They have to pay for THAT cellphone. Isn't it technically the same? Just because you have an iPhone doesn't mean you should deserve special treatment. Don't call me a "jealous little girl" either because I have an iPhone myself. I just don't think it's fair for the others who aren't as wealthy as some of the spoiled kids on here.

you can always buy a loaded credit card. thats what my friend does. just go to like Best Buy or Futureshop and get like a 25$ Mastercard or Visa gift card. works exactly like a credit card, but it can only be loaded once.

It's an accounting issue. It has to do with reporting income.
