    Hi all,

I was just looking for a little bit of advice.

I currently have a Mid 2007 MacBook (2.16GHz C2D, 3GB RAM) and was wondering if the upgrade to OSX 10.7 Lion is worth the time/money?

With my MacBook not having a multi-touch trackpad, I would have to purchase a Magic Trackpad/Mouse in order to get the best functionality out of Lion. As I am in the UK, Lion would cost £20.99 ($32.35) and a Magic Trackpad/Mouse would cost £59 ($90.94), giving a total of £80 ($123.30) to get the best out of it.

There is also the case of performance - I have heard reports of Lion being extremely sluggish on older MB's so I am slightly reluctant to go from a snappy Slow Leopard!

Thank you for taking the time to read this!

I don't think it's worth the time if you only use your MacBook for basic processes. But if you really want to, then go for it. Although, In the meantime, I'd try to save up for a new MB Pro :)

Thanks for the advice... I would love a MBP but I just couldn't drop that much on a laptop (base model in UK is £999 ($1540, which by the way is $340 more than the US!) - This MB only cost me £100 ($150) from a friend so it will last for now!

Oh and I totally agree with your signature - I can't go back now! Mac is the way forward!

Bumped by a spambot, but if you've still not decided then I'll throw in my opinion.

I wouldn't do it, I've got two MacBook Pros, one 2008 and one 2009 model. The 2009 model has an upgraded hybrid SSD/HDD and 8 gigs of RAM, and it handles Lion absolutely fine. The other one is stock 2GB ram and stock HDD, and Lion was a mistake. It was incredibly slow, practically unusable. It probably didn't help that I'd never reformatted since I originally bought it mid-2008, so it had been taken from Snow Leopard through to Lion via upgrades, but basically over the christmas holiday I backed up the machine and reinstalled Snow Leopard fresh. It's now so quick again in comparison, I'd just stay with that on older machines.

Lion is nice if you have multitouch, and there's a few bells and whistles that're nice over SL, but I don't miss it on my older machine.
