Don't worry. You can safely upgrade to 4.1. I also have a 2nd Gen. 8GB iPod Touch running on 4.0 (jailbroken) and it's working fine. I also hear that 4.1 is a lot faster than 4.0. So go ahead.

Yeah, it's fine. The problem you heard were most likely about speed issues with the iPhone 3g, and those have been fixed with 4.1.

Thanks for the info. Did not think the 2G could handle version 4.

the major issue was/is that the 2g touch has a slightly faster processor than the iphone 3g and the upgrade to 4.x really slowed it down, my 2g touch runs it fairly well with multitasking enabled and backgrounds.

Yep, iOS 4.X is good, but it will work really smooth if you leave it without backgrounds and/or multitasking, if you do it'll suck your MBs. My iPod's got 128 MB RAM (like every iPod touch 2G) and it has 50 free while not using anything (take in count I got backgrounds enabled, but shadows removed), 20 while using Safari and 10 in Cydia. Pretty slow, but I haven't got a big bunch of apps. Anyway, I still love it!

But battery life sux on my 8gb mc model as compared to 3.1.3 and if there is no update of your favorite app(4.0 compatible) than that app will work slow. Using wifi is pain as battery goes down fast compared to 3.1.3 thats my experience on 4.0
