My iPod crashed today, and when it booted, it booted to the connect to iTunes screen. The weird part is that it boots, but it won't make it to SpringBoard. It will show the battery logo, and holding down the power button will give me the "Slide to power off" prompt. It shows time, Wifi connection, and battery life. I can still SSH to it.

    I haven't installed anything recently.

How can I reinstall Springboard/Winterboard from the terminal. I don't want to do a restore.

    Thanks.

EDIT: Here are some screenshots. (Ignore the little Xs. My VNC client sucks)

Weird how you could veency in when it was in recovery mode.. Unless it wasn't ever in recovery mode..

Mine did that once. Try plugging it into a computer, and restart the computer with it plugged it. It may bounce into Recovery Mode at a later date though and you will have to restore.

    Either
    A: Springboard was corrupted. or
B: It has a semi-restore state, similar to Windows Safe Mode

There actually is a safe mode, but that sure ain't it.
Sounds akin to the infinite bootlogo thing where the logo stays up but you can still see it in itunes, sync it, SSH into it, etc.. It's super weird that you can still see the status bar and the shutdown slider, tho.

There is a reason WHY the ipod/iphones come imprisoned in software jail out of the box... a stock ipod DOES run better.
