Well, I updated to 1.1.4 on my iPhone and, well, I'm dissatisfied. I'm not one to be dissatisfied with FW releases, I LOVED 1.1.3 and used it since the first day the jailbreak came out. But, 1.1.4 is not worth it at all.

    Pros:
    • SMS is better for me (not for you guys lol)
    • Safari is MUCH more stable, smooth, pageable'y better, etc.
    • As mentioned elsewhere, Youtube.app just seems quicker.
    • Sometimes I turn it off and it psuedo-restarts in like 10 seconds. (Bug or cool feature?)
    • Every app works like they did on 1.1.3
    • I don't really notice an audio difference, but some say it's there
    • Cover Flow is much smoother and, while playing a song and in a song list and you turn it to it's side, it fades into CoverFlow. It looks MUCH better and I don't know why Apple still uses the album flip in the main window.
    • Generally faster
    Cons:
    • Wi-Fi is sh*t, at least for me. I use an Ad-Hoc laptop to ssh into it but it drops connection every time you leave settings.app. This is a HUGE problem!
    • I can no longer sync pics with iPhoto or Image Capture
    • I had a weird ownership problem with ~/Library/ and I had to chown it. Without this, settings wouldn't save.
    • AFP won't work with the mobile user, thus making it impossible to drop ROMs onto it from a Mac
    • AT&T connection doesn't work sometimes, I need to restart
    Now, here's the Library fix:

    Library Settings:
    1. SSH into your iPod
    2. Type "chown -hR mobile /var/mobile/Library/" and enter it
    3. Enjoy your settings
Another problem is that Bosstools doesn't move the Apps correctly, here's the fix:
    1. SSH into your iPod
    2. Type "mv /Applications /var/" and enter it
    3. Type "rm -Rf /Applications" and enter it
    4. Type "ln -s /var/Applications /Applications" and enter it
    5. Enjoy your room!
A lot of people said this has SDK support in it because it's such a large update. Well, that's a lie. Compared to 1.1.3, it's actually ~4 kb less than 1.1.3

Overall, if you have an iPod (or even an iPhone) DO NOT UPDATE, IT'S VERY USELESS!

Hmmm.... many of the problems you have seem to be specific to you (or only some people).

    • My WiFi works just fine
    • Urm, well I don't put photos on my iPod touch, nor do I have a Mac, so...
    • I didn't have this problem.... perhaps you restored your iPod from a faulty set of settings from a 1.1.3 soft-upgrade?
    • Just use SSH
    • Well... this is iPhone specific, what is the relevance of posting this on an iPod Touch forum?

Well, isn't it good to at least know there are some problems out there? Also, many iPhone users come here because this is one of the largest iPod/iPhone hacking communities on the internet.

yes it is good to know, people who are upset because of extra knowledge dont realize what privledge it truely is. often times we take things for granted.

on topic i learned a lot from your post and based my decision to upgrade, on your post. hopefully i can help to solve a few of these problems! free time is something i come by often, mix that with a background in pc tech support and you get a person like me whos willing to lay there life.. *cough* ipod... on the line.

thanks for taking your time to write this up! ill know what to watch out for now.

what the hell. why do you say its better to stick with 1.1.3? you say that everything is faster and more stable, then the cons are things which will hardly affect any of us and say it isnt worth updating.

Exactly, if its faster, and more stable in most areas, why not update? tue cons seem to only happen to you, my iPod works perfectly, Wi-Fi and all.
