TL;DR: So technically speaking, this is indirectly beneficial towards your everyday jailbreak user. This will help developers organize further development of future iOS exploits and centralize common applications and tweaks, such as MobileSubstrate and Activator, into one place to avoid fragmentation of code.

    That's just my two-cents.

Thank you for covering this, iFans. I don't understand how this is bigger than a jailbreak? It sounds to me that this just organizes tools already available, and that these tools only assist finding a jailbreak.

Can somebody please tell me what I'm missing?

Joe is updating the story as we speak. This is only part of a bigger plan, one that is indeed "bigger than a jailbreak." OpenJailbreak is not, alone, what is supposedly bigger than a jailbreak.

Its great that the jailbreak development is open for everyone to see and modify. Correct me if I am wrong but I thought the whole point of keeping jailbreaking a secret was to slow down Apple's response time to patch the jailbreak in software updates. Right?

If they're userland bootrom exploits, it doesn't matter.

You mean bootrom, right? Userland exploits can be patched. Correct me if I'm wrong.

i guess bootrom is a hardware exploit so there's no way to fix
and userland i think its a system exploit, so it it can be fixed via update (itunes/ota)

maybe im wrong or not too

Yes more or less, unlike some devices Apple make the bootrom an actual rom so the only way to fix it is with new hardware (Like the difference between MB and MC touch 2gs and early 3GSs).
