I have an app that I want to edit. I didn't make the app, but downloaded it from Cydia, then SSHed it off of my iPod to my MacBook. (I took the entire .app folder from the Touch.)

I want to change a few things in the app that I don't like. Is there a way to open it in Xcode so that I can make the changes?

Also, just so it's not an issue, this is for my personal use only. I want to use it as a learning experience, as well as to "perfect" an app.

    How can I open it?

No you can't do that. It's a compiled binary. You would have to reverse engineer it and then be able to understand ARM assembly.

So, basically it would be easier to start over from scratch?

What do you mean by "Start over again"?

Make a new app that does the same thing myself, rather than try to decompile another existing app to make changes.

Yes that's probably what you should do.

Is there any way to make small changes after it's compiled? Like change the name and artwork?

artwork can be changed using winterboard but not within the compiled binary/resources

name can only be changed on springboard but not within the app

unless you learn reverse engineering, disassembling and inspecting binaries there is no good chance to change an .app

    Damn.

Oh well. I guess I'll just have to make my own app.

    Thanks for the info, guys.

What were you planning on doing? Grabbing someone else's app, changing a few minor details and releasing it?
