    Is anyone else experiencing this? I have an 8GB touch and after upgrading to 2.0 firmware the capacity in iTunes says I have 7.08 GB total capacity (not talking about free space). Shouldn't that be closer to 8? I can't remember if it said the same thing on 1.1.4 or not.

    all firmwares do this on all versions of the Touch...

    the 8 gig only lets you use about 7 gigs

    16 gigs lets you use 14-15

    32 gigs lets u use 30-31

    So on 1.1.4 does it say 7.08 GB as well?
    I knew it would be less than 8 because of the powers of 2 but thought i'd be closer to 8.

    1.1.4 probably has slightly more usable space, but the number is insignificant.

    the ipod touch doesn't let you use all the memory it tells you it has

    it has to partition some (about a gig to two) for the OS

    I suppose you could free up the extra gig, but then you'd have an iPod that wouldn't turn on -_-

    Yeah, I think it is something to do with how they formatted it.

    It is the case with nearly all storage devices, not just the iPod touch.

    1.1.4 = 7.27
    2.0 = 7.08

    2.0 takes up more space.

    Yeap...same here. I have a 16-gig ipod touch but it only has 14.8 gigs available. I do not mind though.
