Honestly, I wish Apple would buy this (or loan money) and see if OS X arises on the cloud. It would save the company and have another OS besides Windows.

May I remember you what happened to this guy?
And now you want to outsource your whole desktop OS to the cloud, you must be insane.

Yet... If this were to happen, the market for OSX software would explode overnight. Anyone with a $25 OnLive console device, iPad or even a ten year old computer would be able to use any OSX program they wanted to. The only requirements are a decent broadband connection, and you should be within 1,000 miles of a server. There are three data centers in the US, but I think this will change once Apple moves in.

This is the future of computing. It started out as time sharing and it will end up as time sharing again. This will eliminate the need to buy new computers every few years. A modestly priced subscription will let you use the latest software indefinitely.

It also means an end to piracy and high priced software.

They would have to sacrifice hardware sales for this. Last time they did this they almost went bankrupt. Low margin, high volume for computers is not, and never has been their business model for the Mac.

They'll make more money with iTunes and the App Store than they ever did in hardware sales.

I never buy anything from iTunes, I rarely get anything from App Store. I am not saying that is what everyone does, but I don't think Apple should not depend their sales on an online market. OS X won't be in the cloud either because people like their privacy and feel more secure with their data on a hard drive with them, plus, everyone always goes crazy with Apple's newest release of a Mac, iPhone, iPad, etc. because they give it a new hardware design. And then there's people who like to buy a Mac and load windows onto, dude, there's a whole bunch of reasons why OS X-in-the-cloud isn't a very good idea. Maybe waaaaay into the future, like 50-75 years.

    The margins on the A
The market now is HIGHLY saturated on app stores. High volume, low margin sales don't work long term. That is why most of these companies aren't profitable anymore. You can't sustain that constant flow over a long time because you have no wiggle room to grow. Look at all the PC manufactures out there now. They have been hurting for the last 10 years and trying to push into other markets to balance out. Apple main margins come form hardware iPhone, iPads, Macs, iPods. The online stuff is only there to being in hardware sales. That is a proven model that works, hence look at their market capitol compared to 10 years ago.
