is anyone worried about once the iPod Touch is hacked, that any future firmware updates will brick it like they did with the iphone?

It's actually a win-win situation for us consumers if that happens because if they want people to update, they should add more features so we will be tempted to upgrade. So if you want hacks and no updates, you get 3rd party software. But if you update and lose hacks, then you still get something good out of it like faster response or more apps from apple.

i would think you could install the 3rd party apps, then un-install them to get an apple update, and then reistall them!

Not gonna happen. If apple bricks 3rd party apps with a firmware update, they definitely won't allow 3rd party apps to be reinstalled. IMO, apple will sell applications in the future.

Yes. I think apple would sell apps in the future since they also have plans of developing a new PDA device. More money for Apple... whooopeee!

i VERY highly doubt that. first of all, if they sell apps, that means they'd have to make a way to install those boughten apps on your ipod... which opens up a door for 3rd party apps, second, how long do you think it would take before somebody uploaded all those apps on *******s

First of all, making third party apps available doesn't mean opening a "backdoor", you are just guessing right now. You're second point doesn't even make sense. Look at it this way, apple made videos and music available, do you see those up for download?

the operative phrase in this discussion is " once it's hacked." Apple has locked both the iPhone and iPod touch down tight. From the forums, it'll be awhile before anything happens

doesnt go so easy, b/c each time apple updates they re-encrpyt the firmware so well have to jailbreak it all over again,

    Cheers,
    Ben.
