On off button wont work

    Hi,
    I have a problem with the on off button at the top of my 1st gen 1.1.4 ipod touch 8gb, it will not turn off or go in to sleep mode,i have to wait till the charge is dead. i have phoned my local apple store(UK) and they have told me to bring it in and they will send it of to be looked at as it is still under warranty till this december(at a £20 cost

    My problem is that it is jailbroken so tell me if this is correct, if i restore it twice through i tunes they will not detect it has been jailbroken and will replace my i pod or fix it

    Just restore it and take it in.

    plug into iTunes,
    Click "Restore"
    then take it in

    Thaks for the quick reply guys
    Not happy with the £20 handling charge, they said seems as the ipod was not bought from that shop they had to incure a handling charge(money for old rope)
    anyway lets hope they send me a 2nd gen replacement

    It's cool, and welcome to the forum.
    They will probably give you a refurbished 1st gen though.

    i think can live with the on off problem and i have way to many apps on it to start all over agian
    whats the likley hood of it being a refurb

    Im a 100% sure it will be refurb that's what they do with warranty.

    I suppose i will have to live with on off thing as it is in good nick . Do you know if any body else has had the same problem(on off thing) and if so is there a "fix"

    I also had a problem with mine, so I tried to restore it but I couldn't find a fix . When I brought it into the Apple store the Genius guy had people already come in with the same problem so he really didn't do anything, he just gave me a refurbished one.

    my homebutton was broken, i had warranty and got a brand new one!
