I'm just wondering if the iPod Touches seem to be shipping with a bit of charge or no? If yes.. I'm cracking it open and turning it on right in the store to make sure there is nothing wrong with the screen or anything.

Aside from any greyness to the screen, what other things/defects should I be on the lookout for?

    Still waiting...

They do have some power, yes. You can turn it on right away.

I think it is actually best for the longevity of the battery if you charge it all the way before turning on and then running down 100%. Then recharge to 100 and you should be good 2 go.

usually iPod touch/iPhones come 50-0 % battery life (idk y probably cuz they are lazy to not charge it all the way) so you can probably turn it on right away...everytime i buy a new iPod the battery is 50%

I think before the Ipods leave Apple's factories they are fully charged. But with transportation it takes time and eventually runs out of battery. So yeah.
