Ok, my installer won't open, but can I just add apps manually?

    If so, how?

I've already had to restore my ipod twice due to issues. I don't want to again.

So can I just SSH into the ipod and manually add them? And where would I download the apps from online, if this is possible?

SSH into your iPod, navigate to /Applications/ and put the folder with the title [app name].app into it.
You can download apps off the internet, but they have to be in a zipped file. A lot of people post apps on these forums that you can download, so try using the search feature or something.

You can manually add apps to the directory /Applications. Then set permissions to 755 and respring.

You can download apps from where ever they are hosted, a developer might have a google code page or something. You can also look through xml files for the location of an app.

That is only treating the symptoms, if you will, not the problem: your Installer won't open.

    What firmware are you on?

    Try entering this command:

    chown -R root:wheel /Applications/Installer.app

and you could update, delete your previous apps with the new installer?
