Replying to the bolded really. I heard about it too, and in my fair opinion, I do believe that these ideas should be valid. Think about all the algorithms Google has patented... Their entire search engine uses these, and they are updated constantly. They should be allowed to protect this algorithm that they own.

I do agree though, that Samsung is guilty, there is no denying it. My question is, how far down the pipe will they be put?

I am not a fanboy and I never was but I've had two samsung phones and I will surely not buy a third one even for a dollar. I was and early adopter of the Samsung Omnia (one of the many samsung's "iPhone killers") and using that phone was a nightmare! I will point out just some of the worst things I encountered:
    - Abysmal call quality - The default mic settings were so messed up that no one was able to hear me on the receiving end. I had to browse hundreds of posts in hundreds of forums until i finally found a .... SECRET CODE...WTF?!?!... that let's you tweak the settings so people can actually hear you on the phone. And if that wasn't enough these tweaks had an unpleasant side effect. The mic got so sensitive that it was impossible to use your phone when the wind is blowing because on the receiving end the sound of the wind is much louder than the sound of your voice.
    - The touch screen broke in less than a year and I never dropped or hit the phone in that period.
    - The device sometimes just looked ok be it was actually in airplane mode without notifying you...

Two weeks ago I got the chance to play with the S3 model and although it looked like a great device I was very surprised to find some apps that were working better on HTC Desire HD and than on the much more powerful Samsung phone.

If I had to go with a phone different than iPhone I would definitely look in to the models by HTC or even Nokia instead of Samsung.
