I did not see yet any software or hardware available for the Ipod or any MP3 players. Even most of the smartphones can't work with obd2 software. BTW, to run obd2 software on Windows Mobile is a PITA. Most of the newer devices don't work because of their ports.

Palm's on the other hand are almost 90 % compatible. If ever any stuff comes out for Ipod's, I will let you know here.

well.. please do take a look to this pinout! http://pinouts.ru/PortableDevices/ipod_pinout.shtml
i think its pretty compatible with most of the obd* interfaces! dunno for shure... i just dont know if the iphone/touch SDK is enought to help the support of the obd* software! but, it would be really nice

btw.. take a look at this! http://www.rush2112.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=111
    and here: http://www.ipodlinux.org/Serial_Port
you can find several serial adapters for the ipod dock connector!

for the elmscan, you only need the 6pin(data sr);2pin(rx);7pin(rts);5pin(ground) of the db9 rs232 port!

Interesting, I guess you learn something new every day. I guess you need someone to write some code for now. Rx And Tx line are available on the Ipod. I did not know that. It is true that you just need 4 line off the elmscan.

The hardest part is to write software and have a database for the codes on the player.

well yes! the only problem is coding! i dunno the limitations of the iphone cpu and i never looked at the iphone/touch SDK! but there are some obd-2 opensource software, that could help to code a obd2 software for the iphone/touch! having that kind of software would be really great!!!! imagine at the morning entering the car, connecting the iphone/touch! and having the power to see and save all car consumes in real time! uploading the data to the "MPG.app" plus, having all info stores in the iphone, just like a onboard computer! like; km/h records; averages of all kinds; etc. (sorry for my english)

Try OBDKey (http://www.obdkey.com). There is a WiFi unit for use with the iPhone and iPod Touch. Preferred software seems to be the Rev software from DevToaster.
