If you installed DHowett's patch for the iboot file in your firmware, (verbose boot,) then you will not be able to restore your iPod out of recovery mode.

MANY of you are having this problem, where you try restoring your iPod but it show's the verbose boot code and boots your iPod up halfway through the restore process. If you want to restore to any firmware, you must DFU mode restore.

    EDIT: (Below)

    Thanks Musclenerd!

I just put my iPod that has verbose boot enabled into recovery mode just fine; shut off the device, then hold the home button and plug in the USB cable.

Yes but when you try to restore to a firmware it will just boot up halfway during it........and if you don't believe me try it.

I'll try it right now, but recovery mode still works somewhat, so it's not full broken.

Edit: I just restored with verbose boot and it's fine.
Looks like the guy who made the 2G one knows nothing.
Someone should tweet MuscleNerd that a new one is needed.

Uhh, why wouldn't it get rid of anything?
iBoot is stored in the NOR, and it's reflashing the NOR..

I jailbroke by upgrading from tethered to un-tethered by flashing the nor.
It didn't get rid of any of my music, apps, or settings.
