    im getting my new 2g touch, and i want to ask if it costs money to get a new firmware.

    also, can i buy firmware in with an itunes giftcard in canada?

    There is no firmware you can get. It's already running 2.1.1

    no it won't cost u money to upgrade from 2.1 to 2.2. when 3.0 is released it might cost u 10 bucks and here in hte U.S we can use itues gift cards so bet it is the same

    he's talking about 2.2, that is the section we are in, and 2.2 should be free, at least i hope it is, but its not out yet

    Like jpga13 said, no minor firmware updates cost anything.

    That said, upgrading from any 2.x firmware to Firmware 2.2 will be free.

    On the other hand, if you're upgrading from a 1.1.x firmware and haven't yet purchased the Firmware 2.0 update, you'll need to pay $9.99. You now have Firmware 2.0 and any following updates (such as 2.0.1, 2.0.2, 2.1, 2.1.1 and 2.2).

    It won't cost you anything. Feel free to get your touch without worries. Btw, when 3.0 comes out whever that may be, you might need to pay and you can pay with an iTunes gift card for that.

    Firmwares usually cost when the first number changes, but not always (january update).
