So let me get this straight the second generation ipod touch comes with v2.1 firmware or v2.0? also what is the point of this "jailbreak thing". With the "jailbreak" what will I be able to do that I can't do on a normal ipod touch?

Some or most of the hardware was changed, which makes the other jailbreak methods unusable with it.

The new iPod touch has a different processor, which leads to a bunch of technical stuff that I'm not qualified to explain, but basically means that jailbreaking needs to start from scratch on it (although the iPhone Dev Team is working on it now, I have the utmost of confidence in them).

A jailbroken iPod allows you to run 3rd party applications that were not approved by Apple. This means that you can have things such as GBA emulators and PocketTouch (an application meant for allowing to control your music without removing the iPod from your pocket) which Apple would not allow on the App Store. It also allows things such as custom themes, for an extra amount of personalization.

So does it mean that if someone upgrades his 1st gen ipod touch to the firmware 2.1 it can be jailbroken but not the 2nd gen.
