I am a complete noob to the iPod Touch thing. I want to get the most out of it but don't know where to start.
What is the most helpful site, besides this, that you have been to?

Ok, what about sites? Any that you would recommend? And is there an iTunes alternative so that I could ditch it completely?

Oh yeah, assume he's talking about piracy and then telling him to go search for pirated applications.

No, there isn't another iTunes alternative, as no other application can properly sync with the iPod touch. To jailbreak, check out http://blackra1n.com. If you have an iPod touch 3G, you only have a tethered jailbreak. This means you have to run blackra1n every time you turn your iPod on. Remember - turning your iPod on is only when it is completely off beforehand. Having the screen off doesn't mean it is off.

not sure why ripply says "Were not allowed to talk about that in here"

I'm not asking about pirated anything. I just wanted to know about alternatives.

Is there a way I can jailbreak so that it is not tethered?

If you're not sure about it did you read the rules:
    http://www.ifans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=72993
But anyway no, there are no other App store alternatives. There is the Cydia Store where you can buy apps and themes that can customize/personalize your ipod once you jailbreak

Um... buddy, there's a moderator here that answered his question and explicitly said that he wasn't breaking any rules.

There are App Store alternatives: Cydia/APT repositories, and a variety of mechanisms to access them including Cydia and Rock.

    ripply,

care to tell me what rules I broke in asking my question? And if I did break them then you did also by answering my question.
