If there has to be a third, I can see it being Windows Phone 8.

Cough. I really am liking the interface of WP8, but it is nowhere as good as iOS or even Android when it comes to the App Store. I can't see them gaining much of the market unless they begin getting:

Has potential, I wouldn't mind a 3rd competitor. Im starting to get sick of the iOS and android discussions anyway.

Honestly, if I got another smartphone, I'm pretty sure my next one would be a Windows Phone.

Have you ever said or heard a word over and over so many times that it doesn't even sound like a real word anymore...?

Well, they can dream. I still dont see it happening. WP7/8 is very love it or hate it, whereas iOS and Android have a broader appeal. You may not love them, but they wont completely drive you crazy (not considering skinning) either.

I don't see why WP8 wouldn't prevail. As long as more people are trying it, it may get more popular. Just look at how Android started out and look at where it is now.
