This is a discussion thread for the "Nokia Mocks iPhone 5 For Lack of Color Choices" story posted on the front page.
Nokia Lumia phones are beautiful! It looks like my Zune hd. But I sold my Zune to get the itouch 5. The iphone 5 looks nice too.
I'm entirely sick of all this inter-company bashing that's going on. Between Samsung and Apple, now Nokia and Apple. Everyone's bashing on the one company who's dared to make _both_ quality hardware and software for nearly 3 decades. Instead of Nokia focusing on the lack of colour options for the iPhone 5 (we all know that Black and White are enough), they should be focusing on the fact that their phones outstrip a (here's the weird part) more powerful tablet created by Samsung. Put more than 10 icons on a page or more than 20 apps on a Galaxy Tab, just put one toe out of line and it becomes Galaxy Lag. There are plenty of other options for them. On all sides, companies bashing Apple are admitting insecurities. Although the Lumia is nice /looking/ it's still made of Plastic and a comparatively tiny piece of glass. It also has no removable battery. Nokia need to be careful. Unless they can hold their heads high with these smartphones and say they've been creating and releasing quality software for 3 decades then they're hardly ones to talk. Same with Samsung. Watch out, HTC will be next. But we all know if they're typing the rant from one of their phones the battery will die half way through the post because they all have a subpar battery.
In a way, Apple is kind of asking for it. It's a major company that touts its superiority, and others naturally challenge that. Remember the "Mac vs. PC" ads? They challenged Windows repeatedly, telling others what it had that others didn't. Now, the shoe's on the other foot. While this is admittedly an extremely weak point to target (colors, seriously?), it's no different from any other critique that a company has made. I'm not defending this particular company's marketing technique in the sense that it presented no other appealing qualities other than pretty colorful phones, but I'm simply pointing out that when you're on top, you wear a large target.
Well to be fair i'd say if anyone is allowed to make fun of Apple on design it has to be Nokia. The Lumia is hands down the most attractive phone ever made. Still i'll agree advertisements need to be focused on the actual functionality of the device.
I tried a Galaxy Lag the other day for the heck of it. Terrible. Mediocre screen. It took like five seconds to go to the homescreen. I can agree with you there. Nokia phones are very nice. Too bad they just don't run iOS Honestly people just need to get what suits them. No phone is better unless it meets your needs, therefore making every phone to the same advantage of each other.
I like the Lumia line, but I feel that boasting about color choices is not the greatest way of advertising. Nokia should advertise about how great Windows Phone integrates nicely into the hardware, how great the camera is, etc.
