This is a discussion thread for the "Nokia and Microsoft to Host a September 5th Media Event about Windows Phone 8" story posted on the front page.
In all honesty, I'm not expecting Apple to "wow" everyone, as it seems anything and everything possible has been leaked. Nokia being at this event likely means something will be announced then, but it is not something from Apple and will likely be designed to be desireable, which is a rare combo and will garner a lot of attention. Attention, that Apple likely won't steal much of. Granted, whatever Apple will do will sell 10x more anyway, but they won't be the center of attention.
4.3 inch HD Display, a decent CPU,enough to keep it going for 2 years or so, officially, NFC, and a decent battery, and I'll switch from Android. Well, not really, but I really want to try out a Windows Phone that I can call my own, and since WP7 won't make it past 7.8, WP8 is a good start.
The leaked parts are only common knowledge to us enthusiasts. Apple's products are more mainstream, and the actual release will likely be plastered on every major news network and website. If you think that the MS/Nokia announcement will garner such support, I think you're mistaken. It is likely that it will be a nice product, but I don't think that it can stand up to the Apple press juggernaut.
As we are the main ones analysing it it is pretty big when apple actually comes out and shocks us. I dont consider myself a nerd even though i know a far bit about the mobile ecosystem. More just passionately curious
Fair enough, changed the wording to "enthusiast". I don't care for the term "nerd," anyways; I'm not sure why I chose it.
I wonder what you'll say when Apple releases the next iPhone and all those crappy "leaks" turn out to be invalid. There you have your "wow".
I agree with you totally. There are tons of people back than buying the iPad 2 a week before the announcement of the New iPad. This shows that many people doesn't follow Apple news, leaks and reports. And I also agree with you about Nokia. They would make a good product, but it wouldn't "wow" anyone because whatever they do now, have already been done by others.
Apple will still sell a lot of new iPhones, but I'm sure they won't sell as much as the 4s, regardless of how the rumors turn out. The "leaks" are essentially a list of the "things that the iPhone is missing against the competition, and are highly desired among many users anyway," so if they somehow turn out to be false, then many people will be disapointed.
